Home Design Trends 2016

Home Design Trends 2016

Having developed some of the most coveted homes in Los Angeles, Jeff Lewis is widely regarded as America’s most well-known house flipper from his role in Bravo’s docu-series
Flipping Out.  When it comes to renovation, Jeff believes in finding the true integrity of the house and then breathing life back into the space in a way that will connect with a certain type of buyer.

We had the pleasure of attending a lunch with Jeff Lewis in Cincinnati at the 21C Hotel on February 4th, 2016.  The Finn Team were VIP guests of First National Bank and loved having the opportunity to talk one on one with this entertaining personality and all around nice guy.

Not only did he give us the dish about the housewives and million dollar real estate agents out in California, we were also able ask him his thoughts on design trends.  Here are a few elements he said are all the rage in California right now, which means they are coming our way!

Leathered Granite Countertops

The leathered finish is becoming increasingly popular as it is giving a more sophisticated look to the stone.  A leather granite finish is the right choice for homeowners who prefer a countertop with a different style than the traditional shiny granite surface. The leathered finish is matte and looks very elegant.  The minimal shine and the beautiful texture of the leathered granite countertops work well with traditional and modern interiors and enhance the natural stone color.  The leathering process keeps and highlights the color of the stone and gives the countertops a natural, and somewhat rustic appearance.

Gold and Brass Fixtures

You may say “Gold knobs?   Really?   We just switched everything over to silver!”  Jeff Lewis says he is starting to see gold (and brass) toned hardware and fixtures creeping into kitchens everywhere in California and New York.  Selecting gold fixtures will give your kitchen a certain je ne sais quoi.  They’re warm and luxurious all at the same time, and look just as good in modern interiors as in traditional ones.

Reclaimed Materials and Light Wood Flooring

Jeff was telling us that gone are the stark modern interiors.  Even for those who describe their style as modern or contemporary,  incorporating reclaimed materials is all the rage.  These textures and materials make for a sophisticated, warm contemporary design.

For hardwood flooring, he is using lots of wider plank, light colors.  Whitewashed, gray, or light colored hardwood is what is popular right now.
